So you think you have to sacrifice flavor to eat healthy? THINK AGAIN! Last week we talked about how to fuel your body for optimal weight loss. This week, we want to give you some tips on how to flavor these fuelings. Get ready to throw away that salt shaker sitting on your table! Here are some of our favorite alternatives for adding healthy flavor to your food.

Liquid Aminos

Liquid Aminos can be a soy sauce alternative with up to 1/3 of the sodium content! Plus, it contains the amino acids your body needs. What a win! It’s great for seasoning meats, pasta, salads, and more.

 

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with the “Mother”

Not only do we recommend two capfuls of ACV in your lemon water every morning, but it also adds flavor to any food. Some health benefits of ACV include helping with digestion, inflammation, and weight loss, but there are SO MANY MORE! If we listed them all, we’d be here all day, so just go get some right now!

 

Balsamic Vinegar

Balsamic vinegar is a great addition to salads and pastas. You can also try adding a balsamic vinegar reduction to your roasted vegetables. Our favorite is adding the reduction to tomatoes and then roasting. Yum!

 

Lemons & Limes

Lemons are known for their role in detoxifying and flushing your body. Not only should you add it to your water, but freshly-squeezed lemon and lime juice can enhance any meal!

 

Herbs & Spices

This is where you can get creative with your cooking. The health benefits of herbs and spices are well known, most of us just don’t know how to cook with them. Well, now is a great time to learn! Some of our favorite herbs include cilantro, parsley, rosemary, mint, and basil. You can use any of these to flavor sauces, dishes, and meats.

 

To heat things up, we like to use crushed red pepper, cracked black pepper, and a low-sodium Cajun seasoning. Another spice you can add to your arsenal is cinnamon! Add a pinch to your sweet potato, yogurt, oatmeal, or fruit for some extra flavor.
